YOO Hyunjo Cruises Past JO Hyelim 5&3 in Dominant Opening Victory
[Chuncheon=Kang Byeong-koo] YOO Hyunjo (Lotte) made a powerful statement in her opening match of the 18th Doosan Match Play, showcasing the aggressive style and confidence that have fueled her strong form this season.
Competing on the Nature-Garden Course (Par 72, 6,503 yards) at Ladena Golf Club, YOO defeated JO Hyelim (Rejuran) by a commanding margin of 5&3, closing out the match on the 15th hole.
The momentum quickly shifted in YOO’s favor after an early setback. Although she lost the opening hole, she responded decisively. A birdie on the 6th hole brought the match back to level, and consecutive birdies on the 7th and 8th holes allowed her to seize control heading into the back nine.
YOO continued her strong play after the turn. Additional birdies on the 12th and 14th holes widened the gap, and by the time the players reached the 15th hole, she had built a five-hole advantage with only three holes remaining. The result officially ended the match.
Throughout the round, YOO displayed impressive ball-striking and confidence. Her aggressive driving and precise iron play consistently applied pressure on her opponent, while her ability to remain composed in key situations prevented any momentum shift.
One of the most impressive aspects of her performance was her ability to answer important moments with birdies. Each time an opportunity presented itself, YOO capitalized, demonstrating the kind of competitive edge that often proves decisive in match-play golf.
Having enjoyed a strong season so far, YOO strengthened her chances of advancing from the group stage with this convincing victory. Her ability to handle the demanding layout of Ladena Golf Club further highlighted her potential as a dark-horse contender for the championship.
The Doosan Match Play is the only match-play event on the KLPGA Tour. Following the group stage, only the winner of each group advances to the knockout rounds. With an emphatic opening victory already secured, YOO Hyunjo has positioned herself strongly for the remainder of the competition.
